Review for Keystone Elk Country Alliance, Benezette, PA, USA
My wife and I have been KECA members for several years - as a matter of fact, since our honeymoon in the Pennsylvania Wilds in 2015. Since our honeymoon, we've volunteered at the Visitor Center a number of times, joined a local chapter, helped put on banquets and enjoy the area so much that we recently built a rustic cabin not far from Benezette.
KECA is clearly a very well-managed and disciplined nonprofit with a dedication to conservation, habitat improvement and education and the Elk Country Visitor Center on Winslow Hill is at the center of KECA activities. The Visitor Center is one of the most frequently visited sites in Pennsylvania, and for good reason. It's a beautiful facility just outside the village of Benezette with wonderful, interactive educational opportunities for children and adults alike. In addition to the numerous educational displays on Pennsylvania wildlife, habitat and other conservation-related topics, there's a theater, a well-stocked gift shop and all the facilities a family might need after a long drive to the Pennsylvania Wilds.
The grounds around the Visitor Center are exceptionally well maintained and include trails with designated areas for viewing wildlife, especially wild elk. For those wanting an opportunity to view the elk "up close and personal" and take some incredible photos, get on the list for a wagon ride through the fields adjacent to the Visitor Center - it's an experience you'll not soon forget, especially in the Fall when the rut is on. The forest rings with the sound of bugling bulls and the occasional clash of antlers as the bulls vie for the right to earn the affections of the ladies.
If you haven't already done so, visit the Pennsylvania Wilds and Keystone Elk Country, but be sure to visit the KECA Visitor Center, view the new movie and enjoy the scenery, the fresh air, our wildlife, but most of all, our elk.
