As a filmmaker focused on educating and promoting advocacy on behalf of the ocean and nature in general, I, on behalf of our film company, have sponsored a My Hero film site for the last 20 years. Only recently have I been moved to join the board of this inspirational nonprofit, originally founded in 1995 by its amazing creator, Jeanne Meyers, and her colleagues. Particularly, with the Covid 19 induced challenges to our in person learning environments, the extraordinarily creatively designed and multifaceted My Hero website provides important social and emotional learning opportunities for students of all ages while it focuses on celebrating diversity, honoring positive role models, championing social and conservation causes and promoting youth to create their own films honoring their local heroes. Since Covid 19 began, the traffic to MY Hero website has dramatically increased while funding has become more challenged. This is a nonprofit so worth contributing to in order to provide that special spark of inspiration and motivation for young and old particularly during these challenging, isolating times but as well as for any and all time.
