Walking into Hitchcock Woods away from the numbing barrage of digital media and virtual zoom meetings - winter, spring, summer or fall, in any weather, at any time of day - restores an ancient sense of balance and humility to my spirit. Being surrounded by the curious infinite tangle of branches questing toward light, the earthy moist scent along the trail edges, the fascinating ever changing shapes and colors of leaves and lichens, the traces and scurrying sounds of resourceful woodland creatures, the decay giving way to new growth, reminds me to open my mind and senses to the signals of deep creativity and beauty that only nature can send. Hitchcock Woods has been my wonderland, sanctuary, and teacher for sixty two years.
