I have been a proactive rescuer and foster for over 10 years. I was never associated with a rescue, but did volunteer for many in my community. They all had different policies and one day I was in desperate need to find a cat I rescued 3 years prior a happier place then my home. Nothing in my community was a viable option. I rescued my sweet Waffles as a very young kitten. She was still on formula when I picked her up in a parking lot. Waffles was by nature wild as the wind feral. I rescued her and her two brothers, her brothers were very friendly and found wonderful forever homes. But poor sweet Waffles was crippled by fear of humans and although I spend most of my day everyday trying to help her, she preferred to hide 24 hours a day inside our couch framework. It became her home more and more and she would only come out of hiding for meals. I had to come to terms with the fact that she hated her life with me and I began looking for a better place for her to live out her life. I was scared she would have a heart attack one day from her own anxiety of her own mom catching a glimpse of her. Barn cats are known to be territorial and I didn’t want her being attacked or bullied by other cats. I came across a wonderful place, the Goathouse was recommended by my sister in law and I was excited to visit. That weekend I drove from Fayetteville to Pittsboro and toured the Goathouse. The staff and volunteers wowed me with their love and passion for the cats there and I knew in my heart this was the right place for Waffle to live out her life. I did pay the $500 or more to get her excepted, well worth it in my opinion, and I donate monthly so that the Goathouse can continue the great work it does for so many cats in need. I am proud to be a monthly donor and give more when I am able. It has truly been a gift to feel I am a part of helping the cats at the Goathouse. Waffles is still living her best life there and my heart is full. Siglinda shows her love and calls her Wafflelina. She stays away from all other cats and lives in a small shed off Siglinda’s house. I would encourage all to give a monthly donation to this wonderful place. I am forever grateful for them and the love they have shown Waffles.
