I found Dr Julie, her practice and rescue through Facebook. I have cared for parakeets most of my life and could tell just by what I was reading how extraordinary Dr Julie was as an avian vet, and how well run and caring her rescue is. I adopted a budgie from her six years ago. He was 5 years old and a former breeder. He was the sweetest, healthiest little bird. He recently passed at age 10. He left a little girlfriend who was now on her own. When it was time to adopt a friend for her, Budge Bird Rescue was the first place I looked. I found two little parakeets I wanted to bring home. I was having a hard time being able to pick them up. I live near St Louis, which is the other side of the state. I am caretaker for my mother and had a hard time finding someone to stay with her ten or so hours while I went to get the birds. Then I would find someone, and something would happen. Like I fell and got a huge gash in my leg. Dr Julie was so kind and understanding to me during this time. I had already been trying for six weeks to come get them. I was sure what turned out to be the day after I gashed my leg was finally "the day". I basically freaked out and she was calm and very reassuring that we would get the birds to me somehow. She posted a plea on her personal page to see if someone could meet me halfway in Columbia, MO. I would be able to leave my mom for four hours with no problem. She quickly found someone, and a couple of weeks later I went on pick up my precious babies! I am do grateful to her for that, along with the patience and kindness she showed me during my first adoption. The little former breeder was having a hard time adjusting to life as a pet for a short while. I regularly donate to Dr. Burge when I am able. its amazing to me she is able to help everything with feathers in addition to being an extraordinary Dr. I've never seen someone with such dedication and passion for birds. Truly a worthy place to donate to!
