Review for Save The Whales Inc, Salinas, CA, USA
Save the whales has many educational tools to make students and the public feel like their experiences are all real and memorable. Not just looking at photos or lectures. A watershed presentation, Sea Turtle, Otters, and whales which my favorite is Dee the Beautiful Whale. For those who haven't seen her she brings the amazing size of a Humpback Whale to reality, she's a 43ft long inflatable Humpback Whale. This fascinating and engaging Whale is mostly used in schools so students can really capture a Whale's size and understand our connection to Whales since we're both mammals. To add even more excitement you can go inside to see her organs in order to really grasp their size compared to our own and our similarities to them.
There is something truly special about watching the faces of all those who get to see her inflate for the first time to capture the magic of being in the presence of a Whale (since we can't and don't want to capture a real Whale) this brings a special connection to those who live away from the ocean. Dee doesn't just captivate students, all ages love to be around her. Some of the students have never been to the ocean so Dee makes learning real. On top of seeing her you can hear Humpback singing their magical songs, touch real Baleen, and make the connection of how we can help these majestic creatures by picking up trash on the land.
All of these amazing hands on tools of learning and teaching makes Save the Whales stand out from other nonprofits. They prioritize not just teaching to teach but truly connect with the students and all those listening and inspire them to make a difference everyday.
