I have supported Save the Whales (STW) for over 30 years, and have been a board member for the last 10 years. As a marine biologist and educator, I have witnessed first -hand the amazing work of STW to fulfill its mission to preserve and protect the ocean and its inhabitants. The founders, Maris Sidenstecker I and II, along with staff and volunteers, have a deep, unwavering passion for their mission and have met and surpassed the goals and expectations of STW. Over the 44 years of the existence of STW, it has educated thousands of students through its bilingual education programs and informative website, it has influenced marine policy, and has acted as an information hub for those who work with whales and dolphins world-wide. In addition, they have worked with communities statewide to monitor for and educate citizens about clean watersheds. STW has led through their actions and has not been afraid to stand up to large corporations and agencies on behalf of cetaceans and the ocean’s inhabitants, both nationally and internationally.
I am proud to be a board member of STW, one of the most transparent and honest organizations I have served on, and I feel privileged to work with an organization that continues to inspire and teach so many to be effective ocean conservationists.
