A few years ago, I had a beautiful stray cat hanging in my yard for some time. I fed him and kept him warm for a few weeks, advertised everywhere, but I had 3 indoor cats who would not accept him. At the time, I understood my local animal shelter to be no-kill. I brought kitty there so he could be adopted. I checked his status online a few days later, and the shelter had him up for euthanasia because they were out of room. I almost had heart failure, I was so upset. I had heard of Goathouse Refuge, and even though they were almost 3 hours from me, I contacted them to see what could be done. Siglinda and those wonderful volunteers set up a "relay" where a local person would pick up kitty that day at the animal shelter, drive him to another volunteer, and so on, until he reached the Goathouse. Siglinda and her wonderful crew very kindly kept in touch with me, and not long after, "Dakota" was adopted out. I was so relieved and thankful, that I became a sustainer and donate every month to Goathouse Refuge. I had a lovely follow-up to this story, I found out Dakota and his owners moved to Sweden and I saw photos of him very happy on their beautiful farm. I cannot describe the gratitude I continue to feel for what the Goathouse Refuge does for these beautiful kitties in need. God bless them for what they do. They are the absolute best and work extremely hard to save these animals. They deserve all the help they can get. This photo was Dakota while he was still a stray in my yard.
