Review for Hitchcock Woods Foundation, Aiken, SC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The Hitchcock Woods has been a huge part of my life for a long time. I grew up in Aiken, and after a number of years elsewhere, I returned to Aiken.
My grandfather was the first chairman of the Hitchcock Woods Foundation, my parents served as trustees, and I am a trustee now.
It has been amazing to see the incredible changes to the Woods over a 60 year span. The Woods are beautifully managed now through selective thinning, prescribed burning and active caretaking. We have seen the return of the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker, we have seen the proliferation of the long leaf pine ecosystem, and we have seen the continued growth of a variety of flora and fauna.
Of equal importance in this time of great uncertainty in the world, the people of Aiken have used our woods as a sanctuary, a place of serenity and peace, a place to return to time and time again to breathe fresh air and renew ones’ spirit.
I cannot think of a place that has more beauty, charm and history than Hitchcock Woods. It is one of our nation’s most special places,
