Review for Global Volunteers, St. Paul, MN, USA

Rating: 5 stars

My first volunteer service program with Global Volunteers was a two-week stay in Ecuador where we worked with young children in a preschool. In the afternoons, after the parents picked up their kids, we worked with the teachers on conversational English. Global Volunteers offers an amazing program in Tanzania called Reaching Children's Potential. Their work focuses on preventing stunting in malnourished children and assisting those families. They provide a health clinic to serve the rural communities in that area, and offer a safe environment for the local women to deliver their babies in a modern healthcare facility. I was able to serve there for 3 weeks working with the children and their families. And I had the good fortune to work in 3 domestic programs with Global Volunteers. We served the Blackfeet Reservation in Browning, Montana. Worked side by side with Lakota women and men at the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. And worked with migrants at a humanitarian center in Southern Texas. My last service program trip with Global Volunteers was in Havana, Cuba. We participated at a preschool with 3 and 4-year-old girls and boys in the mornings and worked with Cuban adults in the evenings doing conversational English. All of the volunteer service trips I have been involved in have been very meaningful and memorable. We have the opportunity to serve where we are invited, but as volunteers, we are very much enriched by our interactions with the local people and we learn so much from them. Global Volunteers is a truly great organization offering amazing journeys of service around the world and I highly recommend them.

Global Volunteers is a truly amazing nonprofit organization offering several volunteer service projects around the world and in the USA. Recently I completed my 5th volunteer journey with Global Volunteers at the Rio Grande Valley in southern Texas. Here were able to interact with immigrants seeking asylum in the USA and play with their children at the Humanitarian Respite Center in McAllen, Texas. We also served at the Food Bank there and a local soup kitchen. We also went visit to the Santa Ana National Refuge Center where we hiked to the Rio Grande. On another trip, we visited the border where we saw the wall that separated the USA from Mexico. We also learned about US Immigration policies from two different PowerPoint presentations from two women who have served in the Rio Grande Valley for decades.
My first trip with Global Volunteers was to Ecuador in the summer of 2019 where we worked at a local preschool for two weeks. In January 2020, I was able to spend 3 weeks serving in the Reaching Children's Potential program in Tanzania. In the summer of 2021, I had the good fortune to serve with Global Volunteers at the Blackfeet Nation in Montana.
In July 2022, I was blessed to serve and learn from the Lakota Tribe at the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. And my 5th service program to the Rio Grande Valley in southern Texas was completed in October 2022. All of the service programs that I have participated in with Global Volunteers have been very special and dear to my heart. When we serve local communities around the world, volunteers are truly enriched and inspired.
We learn so much from the individuals we work with in our service programs. In 2023, I am planning to serve in Cuba with Global Volunteers. I highly recommend this nonprofit organization for worthwhile and meaningful projects that are truly life-changing.

Global Volunteers is an amazing nonprofit organization that makes a positive difference in all the locations around the world where it serves. I have served on four volunteer service trips since 2019 and I have more trips planned in the future. My first memorable volunteer experience was a two-week trip to Ecuador in June 2019 where we served the local community at a preschool that worked with children from ages one to four. In January 2020, I spent three weeks in Tanzania and our team worked with families in the Reaching Children's Potential program to stop stunting in malnourished children and support those families. In July 2021, a group of us served at the Blackfeet Nation in Browning, Montana working with the elderly, children, and families. In July 2022, a group of us went to serve the Lakota at the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota where we worked alongside our native brothers and sisters foraging for plants, cleaning up litter, and other activities, as well as learning about their culture. All of the Global Volunteer leaders did an excellent job in connecting us with the local communities. These volunteer journeys have really been life-changing for me. In the near future, I am planning to volunteer in the Rio Grande Valley in Southern Texas in October 2022. And in 2023 I plan to volunteer with a team in Havana, Cuba. Global Volunteers is truly an outstanding volunteer service organization and I highly recommend them.

Review for AmeriCares Foundation, Inc., Stamford, CT, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Americares is a global health-focused relief and development humanitarian organization. Besides sending critical medicines and much-needed health care supplies, they also send physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals to provide emergency response in natural and man-made disasters.
Americares reaches thousands of health centers worldwide and has health programs in over 20 countries. Americares operates with programs dealing with Emergency Response, Access to Medicine, Clinical Services, and Community Health. The organization does vital work and provides great service to the extremely poor and vulnerable peoples of the world.
Other reviewers have complained in the past about solicitations from Americares and other charitable organizations. I have never been bothered by solicitations of donations by Americares or other charities they may be affiliated with. Personally, I support the mission of Americares and donate to the organization monthly. Based on my personal relationship as a donor to AmeriCares, I highly recommend supporting this humanitarian organization.

Global Volunteers is an awesome nonprofit organization that offers humanitarian experiences to volunteers in the USA and around the world. I have personally volunteered with Global Volunteers in Ecuador and Tanzania, and these were very rewarding and life-changing opportunities to serve children and their families in their communities. Due to the coronavirus, most of the volunteer trips in 2020 were canceled. I have scheduled volunteer trips to Greece and the USA in Montana's Native American Blackfeet reservation for 2021. If you would like to serve others in meaningful and profound ways, I highly recommend Global Volunteers. –Gordon V. Smith
