Review for Operation Tiny Home, Oakland, OR, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Hi! At the beginning of this year, I started embarking on another personal growth journey. As each year passes, ive become stronger with more self-confidence. Deciding to sell or donate everything that I owned and move out of the city where I experienced my violent trauma, has been both terrifying and beautiful all at the same time. I had no idea that I would get to work with so many kind and generous people. I’ve been retired for almost 2 years and it’s everything I thought it would be. It has given me more freedom to live my life how I want to and for me, my life long dream has been tiny living. I first met with Alternative Living Spaces in July to see if I could afford one of their container homes. Turned out that I could but only if I had a larger down payment. Since I’m on a fixed income, I couldn't possibly see what I could do to remedy that! My salesman Pat brought up OTH and together we read through the qualifications and I qualified. He worked diligently to make sure that I had the same opportunity as everyone else that was applying. I was curious who OTH was so I read their mission and began to realize the major impact that they have to make housing affordable for me and so many other's. At this point I emailed all the requests back to OTH yet I kept asking myself if I was really deserving of their assistance. And my answer is yes I am! My desire to feel safe in my home is what started me thinking this year that I needed to move away from the community where I was assaulted. I am a rape survivor from a home invasion that happened 33 years ago. For over half my life I’ve been afraid of the dark among so many other fears. My last residence had every door and every window armed with a monitored security alarm and so I was living in a prison. Of my own design, but still I yearned for my own independence. Ironically, I was introduced to a realtor that was going to show me land where I can put my home. Before she showed me anything we were involved in a car accident. We had bumps, bruising, and I had a vertebrate injury but there was a silver lining. Fast forward and they are going to be my landlord and I just couldn't be happier! I knew I wanted to live tiny but since I’m on a fixed income I wasn’t sure that was achievable, until Operation Tiny Home came into my life. I had a question one day so I called OTH and Gabrielle decided to do my phone interview right then while we were talking. After that day I was notified that I’m a recipient of OTH down payment grant. My monthly payment is exactly where I need it to be and none of this would be possible if not for OTH. You have been a lifeline for me.
I'm sharing a couple of pics of my tiny home in progress and me!
