I have been so grateful to have been part of a foster care policy coalition led by Family Equality Council. Their expertise has been invaluable to my work at the state level pressing for public policy that affirms that every child, including LGBTQ youth, deserves a family. One of the most important aspects of Family Equality Council's work is that they lift up the voices of Black and brown LGBTQ young people who are most impacted by policies but are not usually consulted about their expertise on their own lives. Effectively dealing with systemic oppression is key to lived equality, and Family Equality Council plays an important role in the collective liberation of our families.
