I became connected to the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation when a dear friend's husband suffered a Sudden Cardiac Arrest. This foundation has been a vital resource for her and her husband. The foundation's focus is on life saving initiatives, including driving awareness of SCA and increasing bystander action, supporting consumer and medical research, and providing community programs, which includes AED donations at the local level, local CPR training, survivor and family initiatives, and event support. I was so impressed with this organization that I became personally involved in the hopes of making a difference. It's been an honor to watch the foundation team work tirelessly and commit their time and resources to helping survivors and their families. SCA doesn't discriminate. It strikes young or old, rich or poor. The need for this foundation and the good that they are able to accomplish is underscored by the fact that over 1,000 people a day experience a SCA with a 10% survival rate.
