Review for Drop in The Bucket, Los Angeles, CA, USA
Drop in the Bucket is one of the best charities I’ve ever come across. They not only provide wells to communities that need them and educate communities on gender equality, but they also work in ways that are incredibly respectful of the communities they work with. They hire locally whenever possible and work extremely hard to make sure the gifts they give are not just handouts but empower the people they work with to create the best lives possible. They are transparent in all their workings and where donation money goes. One of their founders is also on the ground working and building trust almost half the year every year, which to me is a great example of how much they actually care about their cause and the people they help. They also soundly reject any exploitative views of African people, such as the “starving African child” trope which serves to disempower people and allow donors to “clear their conscience” with money. There is really nothing but great things to say about this charity, honestly it’s just really refreshing to see a charity so clearly dedicated to the physical/emotional health of the communities they work with and the ethics of running a good charity.
