Review for The Humane Society of the United States, Washington, DC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

HSUS is an amazing charity that impacts animal welfare on so many fronts: farm animals, hunting, pet mills, adoption, wildlife rehabilitation, pet retention, pet-friendly rental and work policies, legislation, education, corporate outreach... it's hard to overstate the reach and the effectiveness of the HSUS.

That's why Philanthropedia's nonprofit experts voted HSUS the #1 nonprofit in the field of animal welfare.

It's why industrial animal abusers pay tens of millions of dollars each year to attack the reputation of the HSUS.

And it's why I'm a regular donor and an outspoken advocate for the HSUS!

Animal abusing industries are spending tens of millions of dollars annually to smear the HSUS' reputation — and animal abusers are all too happy to spread those lies.

But the fact is, the HSUS is the nation's most effective animal welfare organization, period. More than 80% of HSUS funds are used to help animals, and the list of their accomplishments is phenomenal.

HSUS has animal abusers worried. To me, that's proof positive that HSUS is making a difference. I've been an enthusiastic donor and supporter for many years.

Review for Big Cat Rescue, Corp., Odessa, FL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

BCR is not only one of the nation's best sanctuaries for big cats, it's also an outspoken advocate for eliminating abusive roadside zoos and faux sanctuaries that exploit these animals for profit.

As a result, BCR is a popular target for animal abusers and their enablers. It's a good measure of just how effective their advocacy is!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Leverage BCR's grassroots support into a legislative powerhouse. Those fans are ready and eager to help.

The HSUS is the nation's most effective and most powerful animal welfare organization -- so effective, in fact, that they are the number one target of smear campaigns from animal abusing corporations who have had to change the way they do business.

HSUS confronts puppy mills, inhumane factory farms, seal clubbers, horse abusers, dog fighters, cockfighters, and dozens of other varieties of cruelty and abuse... And they put an end to it.

I know that my donations are being put to the best possible use by the HSUS!

Goathouse Refuge is a cage-free sanctuary that's doing great work for homeless animals. Please consider helping their program through volunteering, donations of supplies or funds, or by adopting one of their healthy and loving cats.

Review for ASPCA - American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, New York, NY, USA

Rating: 4 stars

I personally experienced the work of the ASPCA when they rescued hundreds of maltreated cats from the hoarder of Caboodle Ranch. The cats were nursed back to health, rehabilitated, and adopted out to loving homes. Even the ferals were rehomed into new colonies.

Review for Caboodle Ranch Inc, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, USA

Rating: 1 stars

Caboodle Ranch collected nearly a quarter million dollars in donations in 2010, yet denied cats basic veterinary care. While cats suffered and died in agony, the owner took trips to Las Vegas, bought tickets to Disney on Ice and Daytona Speedway, and wasted thousands of dollars on local motel rooms. At the time of the raid and closure of the Ranch in 2012, at least 29 dead and decomposing cats were found scattered around the buildings of Caboodle Ranch, including two decomposed corpses in a vanity at the back of the "general store". According to the medical records entered into evidence in the custody hearing, more than 95% of the cats were suffering from illness, injury and disease.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Hundreds of cats had to be nursed back to health thanks to the abuse and neglect of Caboodle Ranch. Despite their poor condition, many were able to be saved, and are scheduled for adoption in August 2012.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Shut it down, jail the owner and his accomplices, and ensure that no cat suffers the abuse that was inflicted on the Caboodle Ranch cats.

Review for Naia Tr for the Protection of Animals Animal Owners & Animal Ent, Portland, OR, USA

Rating: 1 stars

NAIA is NOT an animal welfare organization.

It is an industry front group defending animal cruelty for profit. Look at its board of directors: circuses, horse slaughterers, factory farmers, rodeo organizers, puppy mill apologists, lab animal breeders and vivisectionists, fur farmers... it's a Who's Who of corporate animal abusers.

This group exists for one purpose, and one purpose only: to defend the ability of corporate interests to profit from the abuse of animals.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

NAIA undermines animal welfare initiatives and demonizes legitimate animal protection charities. They have little influence on the public, but are heavily involved in lobbying, especially in protecting irresponsible breeders.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Call for an immediate IRS investigation into this questionable organization. According to NAIA's 2009 Form 990, more than 61% of their income was used to pay their employees lavish salaries.

Role:  General Member of the Public & investigator of animal welfare charities and industry front groups.
