Review for Curing Kids Cancer Inc, Irving, TX, USA
I began my relationship with Curing Kids' Cancer in 2012 as a junior faculty member who was being funded by them to pursue research endeavors and receive additional advanced training in clinical pharmacology. I have had the good fortune of being the recipient of many sources of funding. However, never in my life, did I end up forming - what I hope will be - a lifelong relationship with the organization. During my funding period, I of course had to write the requisite progress reports and file the standard no-cost extension paperwork required by every granting organization. However, Curing Kids Cancer - specifically their leadership in Grainne and Clay Owen - would contact me on a regular basis. Call me to see how things were going - if they could be of further assistance - and to really listen about how what they were funding was advancing. It was the most remarkable experience that not only inspired me to do better by my research, but also gave me additional insight into this organization and their mission. I am forever grateful to Curing Kids' Cancer for the opportunities their funding of me has provided for my career. In expressing this to Curing Kids' Cancer over the years, they began to take me up on my offers "to do whatever I could to help the organization." A few years ago I was invited to serve on their special grants committee - helping to make decisions about grants given to particular hospitals. Additionally, I now serve as the faculty advisor to a club started by Baylor College of Medicine students to raise money for Curing Kids' Cancer and generally raise awareness for childhood caner and the deficits in funding. Every person in this organization is dedicated to irradiating childhood cancer. They raise amazing amounts of money and sponsor incredible research projects, but the personal touch and caring that Curing Kids' Cancer puts into their sponsorship is unique among philanthropies and makes them a special organization that has a permanently positive impact on the lives they touch.
