I am alive today because of the treatment I received at the Amen Clinic because of the funding provided by this foundation. I attended a Brain Body conference 14 months after my husband's death because of his mental health. I was lost, I was barely holding on to life despite having 4 young kids that still needed their mom.
In fact, when Dr. Amen asked the audience where we thought we'd be in 10 years; I knew where I'd be, I wouldn't be here. I would have made it to my son's graduation and I could let go. But when he spoke about how he was the only psychiatrist that looked at the brain, before he tried to treat it; but I was intent on finding out more.

Through the foundation I was able to receive a full evaluation and treatment. When my scans were reviewed with me, I cried. I cried because there was physical proof that I wasn't making it up; I wasn't exaggerating at how fast, how loud and how overwhelming my thoughts were. AND there was a course of treatment that wasn't first about the medications I should take, but rather a whole plan!

To this day, I show my brain scans to people hoping to change the stigma of living with a mental illness. I speak on how the Change your Brain, Change your Life Foundation set me on a path to living rather than just existing. I am no longer fighting to control my illness, but rather I have learned to manage it to live a successful life!
