American Bird Conservancy does an outstanding job of integrating direct conservation actions with education and inspiration. Partnerships ABC has fostered across the Western Hemisphere have expanded the breadth and capacity of nature reserves vital to rare birds as well as migratory birds. ABC has actively expanded science-based understanding of key threats to wild birds. Members and visitors to the organization's website have easy access to a wide range of information on how they can make practical changes to benefit wild birds, whether it be by making windows in their homes more visible to birds, keeping cats indoors, or reducing use of toxic pesticides. The organization's finances are well managed, with close to 85% of funds going directly to programs, education, and outreach. ABC is doing great work and along the way I have always found the staff to be very friendly, well versed in the issues of the day, and passionate about advancing bird conservation.
