I started volunteering with Meals Oh Wheels of Mercer upon retiring in the summer of 2017. For three years I was the server/runner(person who took the meal to the residence) and rode with many different volunteers. It was a wonderful experience getting to know the other volunteers; many of them drove long distances to our pick-up location to start their route. Six months ago a friend from church decided to work with me and we have been doing the same route together ever since. It's been fun seeing the people we deliver meals to. We not only deliver a meal to them, we also provide pet food for those who have a dog or cat. Research has shown some clients with limited income would give some of their food to their pet and go hunger themselves! At Christmas time local gardening groups make small plant decorations that we take to our clients. That always brings lots of smiles to our clients' faces!
