Review for United States Wolf Refuge and Adoption Center, Sparks, NV, USA

Rating: 4 stars

I briefly volunteered at the refuge a few years ago, but hauling water and food in the snow was difficult for me, as I have severe arthritis. Since even before I volunteered, William Chamberlain has been a long-time friend and colleague in the animal advocacy world. He is a strong voice for protection of all wildlife. The U.S. Wolf Refuge is located in the magnificent, largely uninhabited vastness of the Virginia and Pah Rah ranges. Some of the resident animals are more like pets who roam freely about the premises. Others are in larger fenced-in outdoor spaces where they have plenty of running room, and others are in enclosures. William knows his animals well and makes sure they get time out of the enclosures to run and enjoy themselves. He watches out for the safety of his volunteers by knowing which animals will accept strangers and newcomers, and which animals only he will work with. Every animal gets attention and affection. William rarely approves an adoption, knowing that wolves and wolf dogs require very special people. He emphasizes public education and attends the major animal festivals where his ambassador wolves attract big crowds. He attends most nationwide workshops and seminars and keeps his expertise updated. He counts Jane Goodall as one of his friends and supporters. As I see it, WIlliam works himself to the bone for the benefit of his animals, improving their quarters, doing the construction and maintenance himself, and looking out for their protection. In order to exceed expectations per your rating system, it appears to me he needs financial donations. Of course with Covid upon us all, his workload is heavily increased these days when fewer volunteers can show up. Wolves and wolf dogs and all our other precious wildlife desperately need protection, understanding and political advocacy , and they have an irreplaceable benefactor in William Chamberlain and the U.S. Wolf Refuge.
