Review for My Hero Project Inc, Laguna Beach, CA, USA
MY HERO's free multimedia lesson plans and resources enrich learning for students of all ages. Students are introduced to and inspired by heroes who work on topics such as social justice, human rights, the environment, climate activists, and civil rights. Students are invited to share their stories, short films, artwork, spoken word, and music on the MY HERO website. Contests are held each year for students to showcase their art, poetry, short films, and stories with the MY HERO global audience.

The MY HERO Project gives students the opportunity to celebrate the best of humanity. Students become empowered to realize their own potential to make a positive difference in their own communities by honoring everyday heroes. My students connected directly with students in countries such as Romania, Russia, Morocco, Taiwan, and Sierra Leone through MY HERO Learning Circles. They were able to collaborate on the topic of heroes, and the difference between a celebrity and a hero, while at the same time learning about other cultures. My students not only have published essays about their personal heroes on the website, but they also read stories and watched films about heroes connected to the class curriculum. In today's world with coronavirus and virtual learning, the fact that all MY HERO FREE resources are available online to students and educators is invaluable.

For over 10 years,, my 4th and 6th grade students have participated in The MY HERO Project. They became aware of how issues affect communities differently around the world while learning about heroes making a positive difference globally. My students have been inspired to submit stories and short films to MY HERO for publication on their website. In addition, my students have taken part in the MY HERO iEARN (International Education and Resource Network) Learning Circles, which has connected students from our school in New Jersey to other classes around the world, such as Sierra Leone, Taiwan, Russia, Moldova, Indonesia, Iran, Kenya and more. Students collaborated online and learned more about other countries' cultures. After collaborating with the school in Sierra Leone, my students learned that many children, particularly girls, are not able to go to school due to the cost of tuition. After learning this, students were motivated to create a fundraiser activity to raise money at our school’s Homecoming. The money raised was enough to send over 30 children to school for a year in Sierra Leone. MY HERO has inspired my students, and others, to make a positive difference in the world.
