My Nonprofit Reviews

Review for Sandy Hook Promise Foundation, Newtown, CT, USA
I am a huge fan of this organization. I got really involved after I met with some of the founders, who have heartbreaking stories, as you can imagine, but also incredible resilience and drive to change the way this country handles guns and associated laws (or lack thereof). However, they do it from a grassroots, social-change strategy rather than legislative. And that is where people like myself have been able to fit in. They offer ways for volunteers to go into schools and teach the kids about preventing gun violence before it happens. The programs I've been lucky enough to work with are Start With Hello, which is all about inclusivity and looking out for one another, and Say Something, which is about being aware of trouble and violence in peers and seeking out a trusted adult to confide in, before a tragedy occurs. Because of these programs, they have prevented mass shootings and suicides and have truly made a difference in so many lives. This organization deserves to be at the top of the list for non-profits making a difference!
