As a volunteer for Book Fairies, I am mainly involved with sorting through the book donations we receive at the warehouse. This is quite gratifying knowing that these books will be redistributed to children and will foster a love of reading and boost literacy. We are close to giving away the five millionth book. I found Book Fairies after I retired from working in an elementary school library. Books and sharing the love of reading, especially to young people has always been a passion of mine. I walked in and felt I’d found a home and a mission. I was part of our successful run at the Guinness World record for the longest book chain and I happily returned after we were temporarily shut down due to covid to continue with our work of putting books into the hands of children. This was especially important while schools and libraries were still closed and many children had no access to books.
