This summer a Draft Cross/Buttermilk Buckskin Filly with a very twisted knee was in a Kill Pen headed for slaughter. I watched her Video over and over and agonized that no one was interested in rescuing her. I knew I did not have the funds, at the time, to quarantine her, transport her over a 1,000 miles and provide expensive veterinarian care to hopefully repair her knee. I continued to hope that someone would rescue her. The day came when this baby filly was headed for the Slaughter Truck to Mexico. All I could think of was her being further injured or trampled to death by the other horses on the Slaughter Truck I was devastated and heart broken. I contacted a very reputable woman who does quarantine in the area. Carol Lambe suggested that we contact SaveTheHorses.Org. I offered to pay her fee to the Kill Buyer and Cheryl Flanagan offered to accept her into the rescue. Her new name is Lucy. Lucy was very lost and lonely. In the process of another filly being shipped to slaughter, Cheryl agreed to Ethel, the filly, joining Lucy. Lucy saved Ethel! The two fillies are now totally bonded and loving life together. SaveTheHorses.Org will soon assist Lucy in receiving the proper veterinarian care so that she will have an improved quality of life. I truly admire and respect this organization. The generous heart of the founder and director and all of the other volunteers renews my faith in humanity. I am so very grateful and appreciative of saving the lives of Lucy and Ethel and all of the other paws, claws and hooves.
