Review for SKIN CANCER FOUNDATION INC, New York, NY, USA
For years we have been told the dangers of exposer to the sun, but not until it strikes closer to home to we really think about it. Several years ago I was sent an article from the Foundation explaining the additional skin cancer risks to Kidney Transplant patients, of which I am one - currently in stage four kidney failure - with twenty percent function. After reading the information I made an appointment last year with a dermatologist for an exam, but due to COVID had to postpone it. I recently did see the dermatologist about a number of areas that were of great concern. Several were removed by freezing and should pose no problem. Another spot - Seborrheic Keratosis - was removed and results proved negative. Knowing potential problems to look for, continued use of sun screen, wearing a hat and just staying out of the sun are now part of my routine. Thanks to the Skin Cancer Foundation for helping me get - and keep my skin heathy!!

After having a kidney transplant a friend from this group sent me a copy of The Skin Cancer Foundation Journal with many great articles - one about cancer and transplant. None of my doctors ever mentioned the added risks of sun exposure to a transplant patient. Thanks to the Foundation's article and suggestions on effective use of sun screens. I now have the information to help protect myself. I sent copies of this article to my nephrologist, dialysis group and kidney transplant team hoping to make them aware of the need to supply their patients with this urgently needed information.
