Review for Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA, Burlingame, CA, USA
LOVE PHS & SPCA! Great place to volunteer. So many opportunities. Even in COVID times.
I have been a volunteer for over 10 years! I used to be member of the cat TLC team and volunteered at fundraiser events like the fashion show and fun run. Then I got a fur baby of my own. Rusty, a miniature golden doodle with a heart of gold. He and I went through extensive training, some at PHS & SPCA, and are now a certified Pet Assisted Therapy Team (PAT).
Rusty and I have been volunteering for 3 years. We have found our niche visiting a hospital, a memory care facility, a women's shelter, wellness days at companies and stress relief on college campuses during exams. There are many other opportunities for PAT teams, including visiting prisons, psych wards, and having children read to the dog at local libraries. There is something for everyone. The healing power of animals is well documented.
Rusty knows he is going "to work" when I put on his bandana or vest. He is very proud. Rusty's job is to give love and receive love. What a job!! Rusty has a business card. How awesome it that?! People really do enjoy having this card as a memory of our visit.
During COVID we have participated in a couple virtual events. No, it is not the same, but we are happy to make people smile.
The PHS staff I deal with on a regular basis are rockstars! I am so grateful for the support from Marivic, Brian and Larkin.
I highly recommend PHS & SPCA as a place to volunteer.
