Review for FNE International, E Weymouth , MA, USA
In addition to the incredible work FNEI does in Nicaragua, Peru, and the Dominican Republic, they have opened hundreds of students' eyes as to what it means to be poor. Not having school books, food security, or proper health care is something these volunteers could not relate to before traveling to Nicaragua. Each student or adult participant commented that their trip to Nicaragua changed their lives in ways they could not have imagined. In every case, being among industrious people and seeing their living conditions give participants a new and vital perspective on life. They will carry the experience with them for the rest of their lives.
As a result of the trip, they have a world view of how people in the least developed countries have to fight to survive. The homes, once taken for granted, are now treasured. The ability to turn on a tap and have potable water is not viewed as an endowed right but recognized as a fateful consequence of living in the United States is.
In short, FNEI has fed, educated, and provided housing and health care for hundreds of families. FNEI's work has injected hundreds of high school, college, and chaperones with antibodies against complacency and insouciance.
