Review for Assistance League of Northern Virginia, Herndon, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Assistance League of Northern Virginia (ALNV) is a fabulous all-volunteer nonprofit. ALNV has partnered with local low-income Title 1 schools providing elementary age students with food, clothing, books, tutoring, hygiene kits, and more. It is a wonderful way to get involved in our community. All funds raised to support our programs are done so by generous donors, awards/grants, fundraisers, and sponsors/partners. We would love your support!

Review for Assistance League of Northern Virginia, Herndon, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Assistance League of Northern Virginia is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to feed, clothe and educate elementary age students in the Northern Virginia area. ALNV has partnered with Title 1/low income schools.

Operation School Bell has three categories: Weekend Food For Kids; New Clothing For Kids & Literacy For Kids.

Weekend Food For Kids provides 1,810 bags of food a month to children. Children at 6 local elementary schools receive bags that are assembled by ALNV members and community volunteers. ALNV is fortunate to have partnered with Dominion Energy for this program.

New Clothing For kids provides clothing, shoes and basic toiletry products to children. Socks and underwear are always requested from the elementary schools.

Literacy For Kids provides tutoring and new books. ALNV members work one-on-one with 1st grade students helping them to improve their reading skills. New books are provided to children via Little Libraries, Summer Reading program and Build a Child’s Library. Build a Child’s Library is similar to a Scholastic Book Fair. Students are able to select a new book for free. For some students, this is the first book in their home. ALNV has partnered with Scholastic Literacy Partnership for purchasing new books.

As you can see, Assistance League of Northern Virginia’s programs are “For Kids”.

If you are looking for a way to give back to our community, please join us. The website for ALNV is www.ALNV.org.
