Review for Tri County Humane Society, Boca Raton, FL, USA
I just adopted an (estimated) 6 year old dog here. I was fully aware that the cost to adopt is $450.00 but no one at all explained it to me. It is also not listed anywhere online but I saw it on the top of the binder they keep on a table at the door with the pictures of the dogs available for adoption. I gave them my credit card, because of the pandemic you can't go in the building, so I waited outside and I made the huge mistake of not looking at my credit card receipt in the excitement about the new dog. They charged me $535.00!!! $85 above an beyond the exorbitant cost of $450.00 which I had reconciled in my mind that I would live with because it would help feed/care for many cats/dogs there. The woman that went over the vaccination information had explained that the dog had already been altered prior to the arrival at the Tri-County Humane Society. I even made 2 donations for food and a bed that was donated on the lawn while I was there. I didn't look at the credit card receipt until I got home. There was no receipt or paperwork explaining the $85 "upcharge". Despite the negative reviews I had read online before going, I believed the best in them and didn't count the reviews against them. Now, I feel like a total sucker. I do have to say that the man who helped me to visit with the dog was excellent. He was kind and caring. He loved the dog. He may have been a volunteer. The woman, possibly a vet tech, who came out to go over the medical paperwork and give me the new vaccination/microchip information was professional. The organization was dishonest/sneaky so I give them 2 stars. They are "not the worst" because at least they are caring for animals and it's a worthy profession. I can now see why so many have written negative reviews. For me, someone can have a cranky day that I can forgive, but this place caused me to be disheartened because of their deceitful practices. I am grateful to look forward to many blessed years with my new furbaby!
