Review for Alternative Energy Resources Organization, Helena, MT, USA
I've been in Helena, MT, since late 1971. Back then, AERO was formed and began promoting alternative food supplies and home gardening, and alternative energy use rather than the standard products from corporate America. Since then, they've matured, fought through a long period of both success and failure, as much as I am aware, until today. Lately, they've promoted Neighborhood Conservation Clubs to which I signed up to be a member and co-leader of one. Check this group out!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
the dedication and knowledge of its employees, public participation and support, and enthusiasm for their work on all types of alternative energies. They've a blueprint for Montana's energy independence....why not be first?
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
be banging on small business' doors, asking to cooperatively address global warming, turning "green" and ensuring water availability to all, equitably. Then, I'd be looking for funds for implementing AERO's "blueprint" for MT.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Heck, at my age, any activity is almost too exciting. But it is exciting to be working on your future, correcting paat failures and weakkneed political responses to Earth's problems and needed solutions. Let's get it on!
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
young, eager and committed to their missions; likely VISTA or other poorly paid recruits for social and economic justice as well as an educated populace; and citizens who want to be part of the solution, rather than a "problem."
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
apportion a third to demonstration projects with willing citizens, a third to cooperative funding of projects important to their overall missions, and a third to staff and linking to expertise world-wide to aid their progress.
Ways to make it better...
In dry or recessionary times, funds are hard to come by. Stimulus funds get derailed by both the Congress and the state/local governments into "pet" projects or "jobs." Some PR funds, project demos in MT would help a lot.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Continuing another 30 years without major funding and strong social networking with other, similar groups world-wide. It's going to be tough for the next three years to stay focused and funded in making a difference soon.
One thing I'd also say is that...
while I should have been a member long ago, I am one now and will be one of their more vocal proponents.
