Review for Kimmel Housing Development Foundation, Great Neck, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I first learned about the Kimmel Housing Foundation after hearing Mr. Howard Kimmel, President of this organization speak at a Social Action Committee meeting at our synagogue. Mr. Kimmel's dedication was apparent and I was impressed by his passion about the need to build affordable housing for seniors and workforce families in Nassau County. I also learned that the Kimmel Housing Development Foundation was originally formed by three Kimmel families to build affordable housing began in 1994 as a private Foundation and in 2009 the organization became a non-profit 501(c)(3) public charity. I was intrigued by the focus of the Kimmel Housing Development Foundation that I drove to Westbury, Long Island to view the two existing facilities that were constructed. The first, a 38 unit senior housing development was completed in 2003 and received the coveted Long Island Builder's Institute Platinum Award. The second building, for workforce families was completed in 2009. The reality after seeing these two building outweighed anything I ever thought possible. They are thoughtfully and expertly constructed to provide ease and safety for the tenants, particularly the elderly and the frail. Additionally, the two buildings are a hands-on management and continued maintenance. I decided to join this organization as a grants writer/fundraiser because I admired their commitment to strengthen the lives of the elderly and disadvantaged families to achieve the best quality of life. As a grants writer/fundraiser, I have the ability to apply for funds which are always needed to maintain the buildings in the optimum working conditions and for future projects such as: 1. The installation of solar panels for the residents of the two existing buildings which will greatly reduce utility costs, benefit the economic/comfort needs of the residents and be environmentally responsible. Solar panels have proven to be low maintenance and as electricity rates rise these savings will increase. 2. The construction of more buildings that duplicates the ones already constructed for seniors, the disadvantaged and veterans. I believe that the Kimmel Housing Development Foundation deserves every consideration to help us help others who need it.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have marveled at the expertise, management and maintenance of all those concerned with the organization.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

The only change I would make would be to try to construct future sights that function as well as the two already constructed in Westbury.

Role:  Volunteer & I act as a grants writer and fundraiser.
