I was introduced to Town Cats of Ocean City shortly after I moved to Ocean Pine in August 2019,. I had brought my SPCA cat with me. As she sometimes goes out, I always leave dry and wet food on the porch.
Shortly after I'd been there a few months, I started to notice some four footed visitors! One of them was a little black cat who sat at the bottom of my front steps and would meow at me for food. After a few weeks of this, I asked the Town Cat folks what should I do ? They suggested TNR - Trap, neuter/spay , and release. So I set up the trap where I fed him and lo and behold, he fell for it ;-0
Off he sent to be neutered and get his first set of shots. As it was now November, I decided to keep him in my house in a cage. He adjusted quite nicely and eventually I left the cage door open while I was home. After his initial shock at touching a real floor, he started to investigate the house and decided he rather liked it! He quickly progressed to making my bed his bed, is quite the snuggler, and I never had a litter box issue with him - it's like he'd always used one.
So if you think that stray cat hanging around your house would never make a good pet, think again !
