Review for A Different Breed Animal Rescue, Dallas, TX, USA

Rating: 4 stars

The post by schmidt2000 is an absolute and total lie. We do not take dogs from a shelter and if it is not cute enough, take it or another one. In fact, we have taken very few dogs from
Shelters in the past year; we have taken strays, dumped dogs, breeder releases and owner surrenders. We have not taken any dogs to any shelters.
Only our big dogs are in half acre and quarter acre areas where they can run and play.
Puppies go into their own mobile office in quarantine where they are kept in crates. They are going thru deworming and treatment for coccidia and giardia, and go for shots if they can handle those.
Small dogs are kept in air conditioned and climate controlled rooms.
THIS IS HOW PEOPLE LIE ABOUT RESCUES

The ground in South, East and north texas is saturated with parvo, parvo takes 6-8 months to die off. Every pup which has been found dumped in the country, born under a house, found in a ditch, will already harbor parvo and or distemper or other viruses. The pup may be completely a-symptomatic and run and play.
But going to a new home, or getting a vaccine, may act as a trigger and the pup breaks.
We always offer to take the pup back and refund; or we have vets we work with and we offer veterinary services thru them. Adopters signs a form agreeing to this.
If people take the pup to an emergency vet and run up a $3000.00 vet bill we cannot help…this is beyond our financial ability.
Every rescue deals with this issue; A different Breed is not the only one. Even the most well known and well funded organizations in the metroplex have had outbreaks of parvo.
All rescues are dealing with this.

When people apply for a dog, and send an application, when the dog is adopted we go over all the emails and email that the dog has been adopted. It is our consistent experience that a lot of emails are not arriving, incoming or outgoing. Same with texts. Service and internet in the country is subpar. We do the best we can.

At ADb we get dogs in all shapes and conditions. Dogs starving, broken bones, covered in fleas and ticks, puppies dumped in culverts and ditches.
We give them shots, deworm them, treat skin conditions, schedule dentals and surgery for broken bones. We have a 1200.00 surgery coming up on the 15th of September.
But there can be conditions undetected which may surface later. Especially pups who are seemingly perfectly healthy, but have been on the ground in the country, can harbor viruses which are completely a-symptomatic and may or may not show up later.
We have included a paragraph in our application which people initial, to make people aware that this is a possibility.
To some that may be a red flag; to us this is responsibility.
