Review for The Goathouse Refuge, Pittsboro, NC, USA
I work at the Goathouse as a caregiver for the kitties. I give them their medicine, I bathe them and groom them when I’m able to, and as often as I can I make time to love on them and play with them.
The Goathouse is a very special place. For the first time in my life I feel like the work I am doing is meaningful and truly matters. When I am not at work I am still thinking of the kitties, wondering if they’d like some new toys or different food, hoping they are doing well and they are happy.
I always try to pet the shy kitties that hangout outside in the yard at the refuge. I can tell that many of them want attention and love, but they are afraid, so I always try to give them a little encouragement and I wait patiently for them to be ready for love.
Most people have no idea the blood, sweat, and tears that go into working for a cat refuge and sanctuary struggling to keep its head above water. The truth is that no one can possibly imagine all that it takes, and all of the hats we wear to keep the cats safe, happy, and healthy.
A couple weeks ago we had a 3-4 week old kitten who woke up with an abscess on her neck the size of a golf ball. We took her to two emergency vets who didn’t have time to see her, but told us it was an abscess and must be drained immediately and she’d need to start antibiotics. So our volunteer brought her back to the refuge and we lanced, drained, and cleaned it ourselves. We monitored her for a couple days until we could get her to our regular vet for some antibiotics.
We currently have two sweet older cats whose health is declining, and at recent vet visits we were told that it might be time to let them go soon. We are focusing on making sure they keep eating, and that we spend time with them everyday making sure they know how loved they are; and they are so, so loved.
I feel very lucky to be able to care for the cats at the refuge. They bring me so much joy, and in return I give them all of my love.
Donations are what keep us going every single day. Without our regular sustainers, donors and supporters wouldn’t be able to do what we do. The Goathouse Refuge is truly a magical place, please help us keep it that way.
Review for Pasado's Safe Haven, Sultan, WA, USA
I have adopted two wonderful animals from Pasado's and am currently fostering a cat with special needs. After adopting my first animal from Pasado's I signed up to be a volunteer because I am passionate about the work that they do. Pasado's is an incredible organization dedicated to rescuing all kinds of animals from neglect and abuse. Everyone who works there and volunteers there is passionate about the animals and loves them unconditionally.
