Review for Yspaniola Incorporated, Jamaica Plain, MA, USA
Yspaniola has been doing an amazing job responding to COVID and continuing to promote student literacy.
They've worked diligently to not close their offices, rather pivot towards small-group, carefully monitored, tutoring sessions for those at risk of not being able to participate in online learning due to limited literacy.
Yspaniola is an innovative nonprofit that responds to community needs and uses donor dollars well. A natural result of a staff predominately comprised of community members in the Batey!
Review for El Refugio Ministry Inc, Decatur, GA, USA
El Refugio gives those in detention and their families a chance. They advocate for the rights of detained people and provide an immense service through their hospitality house. Providing shelter and security in rural Lumpkin, Georgia, they actively make a difference in people's ability to visit loved ones, the outcomes of their court cases, and their ability to succeed in the United States after their release.
The leadership is highly engaged and innovative. When El Refugio received a donation of a new house, they created entirely new programming to serve those being released. When COVID-19 emerged, they designed new platforms of digital advocacy and support. If you donate to this nonprofit, I assure you that they will apply your funds directly to the benefit of those in a 2,000 person private detention center.
