Volunteering for COTA was a wonderful experience and highlighted the need for our services in Guatemala. As a volunteer, I interpreted in multiple offices and spoke with a wide range of Guatemalan citizens, most of whom did not have the means to go to the doctor. While some were there for check ups, many had serious conditions that required surgery. COTA was able to perform life changing procedures, free of charge to many of the women and children we saw. There were quite a few middle aged women and elderly that had never received an exam in their lives and without COTA, they likely never would have. The work was not easy physically, nor emotionally, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.
