We were on our annual week-long float in the Salmon River Wilderness. One participant seemed particularly hesitant and tentative, said little, and never smiled. Late on the second day we had a tough climb to a hot pool atop a cliff side. She reluctantly went along, needed a fair amount of help to make the top, but when she cleared the ridge line, she burst out with the most beautiful smile you've ever seen; a smile that never went away the entire rest of the week. People cheered and laughed and the entire tenor of the trip took on a whole new aura. As most participants say, the river trip is life changing. It surely was that day!
