I first came across the Fistula Foundation after reading the appalling story of early fistula research in the US. Dr J Marion Sims carried out horrific experiments on enslaved black women without either anaesthetic or any kind of informed consent and it is very depressing to know that he is still regarded as a hero of gynaecology in some circles. However, this did lead me to reading more about the situation today and the incredible work of the Fistula Foundation, helping to alleviate this painful and humiliating condition. I have found the Foundation to be very informative about how donations are being used and it is so great to see them making a very real difference to the lives of thousands of women worldwide. Keep up the good work!
