Review for ONE Spirit, Rapid City, SD, USA
One Spirit is aware of the needs in their communities and strives to meet them. Their food program feeds hundreds each month. They have worked with a local grocer to stock needed items that food stamps do not cover such as toilet paper, feminine products, deodorant, diapers and such things so the people can purchase them with a $25 per month voucher provided by One Spirit. They keep a list of the neediest who have asked for help and specifics are given ie. the size of shoes for a child, or pants or coats or needed soft foods for an elder whose life is being cut short by cancer. They identify community needs and strive to help the people become more self sufficient by building a butcher shop (The Buffalo House) which provides some income to the native workers as well as meat for the monthly food boxes. They realized there was a tremendous need for a laundrymat then decided to add showers so the people who have no running water can take a shower while their clothes are being washed and dried. Wood is provided for elders and families who have no heat in the winter. This is an area where there are few jobs available. And very cold winters. A garden area is being created so they can provide more of their own food. Some of these programs are well established and some are works in progress. This is an organization that I can’t give enough to. One Spirit is primarily a volunteer organization. Most of the money that is spent beyond helping the people is on rent and utilities. I hope you look into this organization and consider helping out.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
See that they had more money to do more things that would directly help the people. Like finish the laundrymat and shower. I can’t imagine not having running water to wash my clothes or bathe myself. And getting the Buffalo House approved to sell buffalo meat to the public.
