I have stepped back from my endorsement of this program. The mission statement is fine but the execution is problematic. I have studied this type of program for years and it is making the same mistake that has caused other similar programs problems. The program wants money from doners but does not want any practical involvement from volunteers. I have 22 years of hands on horse experience and have worked with her when she has allowed it, only twice, and was told I was a good team player. I also have my certification to dart horses for contraceptive purposes. But 80+% of the time I am told no when I asked to get involved directly with one excuse after another. It is one thing to work with stakeholders from a distance to get them to donate money, it is quite different to let qualified volunteers in and share a little time with the horses and this program simply will not let this happen. She also will have a problem if she keeps adding horses to the preserve as they will deplete the resources of the pasture and begin to require year around feeding. I have seen this happen with other programs and neither of these concerns I am expressing bodes well for the future.

FWIW I have taken in 3 feral/wild horses into my stable and done well with them. I rehomed 2 of them to very good homes. The third horse is now a permanent part of my stable, I understand that this program does not want this done with the horses in this Preserve but it shows that I can work with horses keeping myself safe as well as the horses. I did help her and several others dart horses in the Preserve in March 2021 and had the best accuracy record of anyone that day. However, this year she was too busy to call and let me get involved.

I wish the program well but am concerned.
