Review for Thinkhumanity Inc, Loveland, CO, USA
I met Deana years ago through a friend who hosted a ‘party’ for her to sell handmade items the refugee women in Uganda made. I was so deeply touched with their mission at Think Humanity that I would reach out to Deana every year and buy several items for Christmas presents. One particular year I went to her home and picked out some things and as I was leaving she shows me an ornament. It was made of paper beads to look like a wreath. She said they were five dollars and that she had hundreds of them to sell. I politely said I wasn’t sure how to sell them (I was so busy and didn’t think I could take anything else on) and she smiled and said well just take one. You don’t need to pay for it. I thanked her and left. That evening my son, who never asks for help with his homework, asked me to come help him with some answers about a book he read in school. The book was called ‘A Long Walk to Water’. It is the story of a refugee boy in the very part of the world where Think Humanity works their miracles. I couldn’t believe the coincidence. God was speaking to me. I helped my son with his homework and took the book and didn’t put it down until I was finished. I knew I needed to help Deana share her work with these kids. I arranged a day at school for her to come in and talk to two of my sons classes. Deana did an amazing job showing the kids pictures and telling them what it is like for kids their age in Uganda. Do you know those kids raised over $500? For every ornament they bought, they knew they were buying a bed net to protect 4 kids like themselves from malaria. Those are the real lessons kids need to learn. God told me I wasn’t done yet though and I introduced Deana to some small business owners I know in town who sold over $500 more in ornaments. It was such an amazing feeling to know that we had spread their mission and raised money. I think what I like most is that we see the pictures of the people we are helping. We see their smiles, we can feel their love. I sponsored a girl for her last year of school and am now helping her family with food during COVID. I was sent a picture of her family all smiling and I keep it on the ledge with the rest of my family. This is the only organization that has ever touched me in such a personal way and it couldn’t be any further away in the world. I very much believe in their work and I feel blessed to help them. This is my story. I can’t wait to read yours.
