After finishing up a tutoring session, the student walked over to a classroom binder to gave themselves a gold star in multiple skills-based and behavioral categories; they looked to me for reassurance that they could in-fact place a star in these areas. It was obvious they were proud of the work they had just accomplished, achieved or deepen skills in that session, and believed in themselves. It was really rewarding to see. Additionally, the student sais goodby to the AmeriCorps site coordinator by saying, "Bye, Ma. Have a good day!" When walking the student back to their classroom, they explained that the site coordinator really cared and was always fun. From just this lone experience, it is clear that the Reading Partners program helped boost students both personally & academically.
