The Volunteers at HSMC are truly angels! My son and I met Willa the week before the pandemic hit. We thought she seemed like a good fit with our other hound dog, Blue. He’s a little picky about other dogs, but we thought a friend might help him while we were at work and school. We arrange a meet and greet for the following weekend. Jeannie and Marchelle were amazing! After meeting at PetSmart, they brought Willa to our house and spent the afternoon with us. Willa and Blue hit it off and Willa seemed to love our house with dog doors and yard. Willa had been at the shelter for 18 months and had delivered 11 puppies while there, so she was well-loved by volunteers, but she hadn’t had a “home”. We started with a “foster to adopt” situation. I love that they do that! Not every match is going to be right! Willa was pretty nervous the first several days and was aggressive toward some service folks who came by the house. Jeannie cried with me as we struggled to decide what to do. We eventually figured out that Willa was right for us! Jeannie and Marchelle checked on us often. I still get texts from Jeannie. She’ll send pictures of Willa’s puppies and I share pictures of Willa, right at home. I couldn’t recommend the HSMC more. What a lovely group of volunteers.
