Project Harambee NFP does many things. What I find most impressive is that it provides support for Kenyan students seeking to become doctors and nurses. Promoting health in this local, on the ground way is a great strategy, and Dr. Keen Harrison, who is the director of Harambee, makes one or two trips to Kenya each year. She knows the people Harambee is supporting, she knows what their issues and needs are, and she works hard to make it work.
Project Harambee is a great effort, and I am proud to count Dr. Harrison as my friend. I also am a long-time friend with her husband, John McNulty, who also works on the project and joins Dr. Harrison on her trips to Kenya. John and I were professors of Anatomy at Loyola University Chicago's medical school.
