Review for GO Campaign, Santa Monica, CA, USA
Go Campaign has been an amazing sponsor. They are very easy to work with: despite being in a different time zone we found communication very easy. No unnecessary paperwork allowed us to getting working on the recovery project immediately.
The support and swift response was key to us transforming our services. The needs of low-income neighbourhoods have changed during the pandemic and therefore the role and function of Burgess Sports has changed too. In many instances, Burgess Sports has expanded from supporting young people to supporting entire families to respond to their needs.
The children live in very densely populated high-rise flats. There is very little space and very few have a garden space. Many families do not have access to computers and have lost contact with their school work. Many people have lost their jobs. There have been difficulties accessing food and the prices have gone up a lot. Some families have had relationship problems.
The concern of mental health, both lockdown and fears around the virus are driving forces for deteriorating mental health and wellbeing amongst young people and their families.
With Go Campaign support we were able to help to tackle these issues. We provided hot-meals to vulnerable families and delivered a very successful online programme, which offered a variety of activities for the whole family. We had over 500 participants in this programme, who were following the fitness sessions, and engaging in different weekly challenges, such as jigsaw puzzles that were distributed door to door. The quizzes and online leadership course were popular with our teenagers.
Go Campaign support made a huge difference throughout the lockdown, we are very grateful and our community as well. Thank you Go campaign!
