About a year ago I was in Petsmart picking up one of my dogs from the groomer's. I noticed the adoption event and thought it couldn't hurt to take a glance of the pups as I walked by. An adorable beagle caught my eye. His name was Winston. I walked by a couple more times before I finally made it back to the grooming department. He was cute but I wasn't looking to add a third dog to the mix. I already had 2 rescue dogs. This however did not stop me from going home and immediately looking up the humane society's website and Winston's information. On their website I learned Winston was 6 years old with some health issues. His info also stated he needed to be an only dog while he went through his heartworm treatment. So I knew that wouldn't work out with my two other dogs. This knowledge however did not stop me from continuing to visit Winston at the adoption events every Saturday for about 3 or 4 weeks. I was surprised week after week when he was still there. One day I started chatting with the ladies about him. During our conversation I told them I would take him home in a second but I had 2 other dogs already. They informed me he was feeling much better and had been having doggie play dates and was doing great! From there we slowing introduced Winston to my dogs and everything went very well. They agreed to let me foster him to make sure it was a good fit for everyone. It was! I officially adopted Winston after 2 weeks of fostering ...even though I knew after 2 days. He became part of the family immediately. It's been a wonderful year with this little guy. He's got the biggest personality, loves food and falls in love with every small dog he meets. He's spoiled rotten and has a dog bed in every single room of the house. We also got the amazing news this year he is finally heartworm free!
I can not say enough wonderful things about this organization and Winston's adoption process. They truly care about all of their animals and making sure they find the right home. The Humane Society of McCormick will always have my support, they are all amazing people and a wonderful organization!
