I have been a volunteer in the Haitian Health Foundation office in the past, and I can attest that it is not luxurious, and that staff and volunteers pitch in to accomplish amazing things.

The Haitian Health Foundation is a model for how charities should work: their admin costs are as low as possible, their officers and Board members are hands-on, and they don't waste a penny on promotion or travel or fancy offices! They cherish their volunteers, who are also hard-working, and best of all, in Haiti they employ those who live there at all levels, including professionals, in addition to providing life-saving food, housing and medical care.

I have been a volunteer and donor to the HHF for many years, and the words that best describe this outstanding organization are "Ethical" "Dedicated" and "Grass Roots." Instead of spending money on fancy offices or ritzy fundraisers, where only a fraction of the money raised goes to the charity, the Haitian Health Foundation dedicates itself to its stated purpose, improving the health--and the lives--of the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. Unlike most aid to Haiti, they make sure that it actually goes to the people in the back country, in and around Jeremie. The practical programs like Give a Goat, Feed a Child, Happier House employ local workers and raise their standard of living even as they help their neighbors. The need is ongoing, and HHF has not slackened in their efforts to make a difference.
