I have been following DoD after learning about it a couple of years ago on TV. Last year I decided to sign up as a boarder since we live close to 2 military bases. Nothing came of it until March of this year. I received a message through the DoD site of a service member in need. Recently he was relocated to one of the bases near us and hasn’t yet established a support group outside of the base. He received orders to deploy in less than a week and was desperately seeking boarding for his dog. His message was so kind and polite I responded immediately asking for a meet and greet. We have 2 dogs of our own and I had to make sure they would get along. We had the meeting and it went very well. Two days later we were chosen and asked to board his dog. We agreed and have taken custody. In this uncertain, crazy time I can’t think of a better way to say THANK YOU to one of the service members keeping us safe and free. I know I will get attached to our boarder and cry like a child when his dad comes home but it is worth it just knowing I am providing a safe and loving temporary home. I feel blessed to have been chosen. I will update on the full experience when it concludes.
