Review for Baltimore Woods Nature Center Inc, Marcellus, NY, USA
My first encounter with Baltimore Woods was back in the late 70's when Save The County first acquired Baltimore Woods through Walk To Save The County. It has been wonderful to see it grow and become an independent Not-For-Profit. As a public school teacher it was great to see school kids and their families get excited about raising funds for such a great cause. Unfortunately, raising money through walks became difficult, due to school regulations and other things, so Save The County has found other fundraising avenues as has Baltimore Woods. While raising my daughters we would make a special day trip to go to Baltimore Woods, they both loved it and learned so much. For several summers I was a naturalist counselor at the daycamp. So many children have grown up benefiting from the interactive program; learning, loving and respecting the environment. I see those children, now adults, working in the community having developed a wonderful environmental ethic some pursuing fields in environmental sciences others knowing the importance of "green choices" in their everyday lives.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
I've seen the development of this site from land acquired in the 70's, helped with building the log cabin on the site for education programs, to the development of trails to raising funds thru "saving pennies" to build a new facility. It has been a wonderful community supported location.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Offer more workshops on "green activities" families and organizations could do to be "greener"
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
It has thrived even though there have been many struggles
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
The wonderful staff and volunteers are very welcoming and knowledgeable. The programs are varied reaching young children and families in the neighborhood to Sr Citizens, and an expanding school, and community.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Expand its programs to include overnight programs for older school age children. Overnight facilities for conferences or out of town groups.
Ways to make it better...
I had more time on my hands to volunteer and enjoy what is in my own neighborhood! It is a gem!
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Continued fund raising so families and school groups can use the facilities with little or no charge.
One thing I'd also say is that...
This is a great location with very diverse opportunities to study the natural environment in Central New York. They have done a great job with the resources available!
