Review for Chewonki Foundation Inc, Wiscasset, ME, USA

Rating: 5 stars

As an Environmental Educator at Chewonki, my job wasn’t just about doing remarkable things each day, it was about the deep joy of nurturing other people to do remarkable things each day. The awe I felt at seeing so many youth grow in their awareness of the environment, and of themselves as relational beings opened the path for me toward my calling to the ministry. I shall be forever grateful to the Chewonki senior staff who supported me to grow as a leader, to live with integrity and to work on behalf of the greater good. Though the pay was modest, the learning environment was priceless.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

students who were inspired to pursue careers in environmental science and advocacy.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

partner with urban and suburban organizations to create environmental internships to reshape the American lifestyle.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

being at the leading edge of integrating appropriate technology at the institutional level, along with the culture that supports those innovations.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

optimistic, kind and real believers in the power of community.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help America understand and want to get off fossil fuels, forever, by partnering with a local community to transform their use of energy.

Ways to make it better...

there were more benefits for staff.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

limited resources and the inertia of the wider culture.

One thing I'd also say is that...

Chewonki is a great gift to the world.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2000

Role:  Professional with expertise in this field & I worked with youth to learn about Natural History and living in community.
